Learning Magic
By Adonal Foyle
We're now a month into the regular season and I'm fitting in nicely with not only the city of Orlando, but with my new teammates as well. There isn't anyone on the roster who was a teammate of mine when I played in the Bay Area. So there are a handful of guys whom I'm getting to know for the first time.
For me, one of the things that became very evident as soon as I joined the team was that I was immediately embraced. I was the new kid on the block and they welcomed me with open arms and tried to make me feel comfortable. And for that, I was very appreciative.
Perhaps, they got a little too comfortable because they had already started making fun of me. I was immediately a part of the Orlando Magic family. Sometimes, they laugh at my accent and being 32 years old on a young team, they consider me a dinosaur.
Pat Garrity and I have gotten to know each other really well many years ago because we've both been very active in the players' union. We always talk union business. And I like to listen to Pat and see how he does things here since he's been with the organization for a number of years.
I have a pretty good relationship with Keyon Dooling as well. Keyon is also active in the union. He comes to meetings and always wants to know what are the concerns regarding the union.
At the same time, I'm still trying to become good friends with the rest of the guys. Obviously, it takes a while to build trust and build relationships with new teammates. But for now, I'm having a great time with me new teammates.
