Welcome to the part of my website created to give fans a behind the scenes look at life as a professional basketball player. This page will be constantly updated to reflect my thoughts on the coach, practice, the team, and of course the game itself.
Taking a Buyout
Hi Everyone,
As you all know by now, my contract was bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies. After clearing waivers, I am now a free agent. I just wanted to let everyone know the latest on what's been going on with me.
Let's recap: At the trade deadline, I was traded from Orlando and spent that weekend in Memphis. I was really excited about going someplace and really being part of a team. I really got into the Grizzlies' playbook and tried to learn as many plays as I could. But after playing just one game, it became apparent that I was not going to be part of Memphis' distant future. So, we came to an agreement and they decided to waive me and allow me the opportunity to hopefully jump on a team that will compete and make the playoffs. So I'm very glad I will have the opportunity to sign with possibly a playoff team. I wish Memphis the best of luck for the rest of this season and in the future.
Anytime you're traded when you're an older player, the thought of possibly being waived is always on your mind. I didn't know what Memphis' plans were. But my thing has always been about enjoying the ride and see where it takes you. And that's what I tried to do during my short stay in Memphis.
When you're a professional athlete, you could play for one team one day - and not know where you're going to be the next day. For 12 years, I've been very, very stable. Up to this point, I was never traded or let go. I've been blessed to be able to play for one team the first 10 years of my career. So, I've been very fortunate to have that kind of stability. As far as what's going on now, can it be disruptive and unsettling? A little bit. But again, that's what the NBA is all about - the ride and the journey. I know I won't be doing this for too much longer. So for right now, I'm just going to enjoy this for however long it may be and not let anything get in the way of that.
I'm very optimistic I will be able to return to the floor this season. In the meantime, I will continue to workout, stay in game shape and continue my work with the Kerosene Lamp Foundation. Please stay in touch.
